"It's all about the light" in my photographic adventures.
More important for me, life is all about the Light of the world: Jesus Christ. (See the Gospel of John, chapter 1.) He's my Savior and Friend, my Light in the darkness, my Hope in all situations. I want to know Him better every day and tell others what He has done for us on the cross.
A pleasure is full grown when it is remembered. ~C.S. Lewis

A Winter Walk
It’s easier to tolerate winter when the sun shines and when you have a dog to walk!

Daddy, Hold My Hand
Parenting isn’t “a walk in the park”! But this daddy makes it look easy as he and little one reach for each other’s hand and walk on a mild winter afternoon.
So little. So big. Looking up. Looking down. Reaching up. Reaching down. So trusting. So giving.
It’s great to see a father’s love and a daughter’s trust. May it grow and grow, bloom and blossom!

This Dancer Shines
This young miss SHINES at whatever she does! She dances, she sings, and she excels in middle school too! She has love in her heart that radiates to everyone around her, and that love beams through her beautiful blue eyes. She shares Jesus’ love with those around her, both near and far, in family, church and school family, and mission opportunities.
I captured her sweet personality along with a bit of her impish nature at various locations for her headshots — these samples are from inside a horse barn to outdoors on a snow-covered path. I do have a favorite! Each is very different with the natural light settings — from cool to very warm — that we found along the way.
With a smile and sparkling eyes like these, I know whatever photos her parents submit for her 2016 Muny Opera application headshots will shine for the decision-makers. Better yet, I know she’ll nail her auditions! I look forward to seeing her in the summer productions!
Lord, I pray that Your light will shine through this young girl, that she will grow in her faith and stand unashamed of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and Friend. Help her words and actions to always reveal Your light that lives in her and draw others to You! Give her the confidence and boldness to always take a stand for You in her life experiences. Guide her as she grows to be the young woman You want her to be!
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

A Walk along the Woods on a Winter Day
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

In the Bleak Midwinter
In the bleak mid-winter Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter Long ago.
I enjoy photographing nature and little details of God’s creation even on a cold winter day. On this day we had accumulated 9 inches of new snow, and some of our drifts were higher than two feet tall. My boots weren’t tall enough to keep the cold, icy, snow out, but it was well worth the effort in our garden areas to capture these dried flowers still on their stalks, topped with a dollop of snow. The images, plus a mug of hot chocolate, were sweet rewards.
Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him Nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away When He comes to reign:
In the bleak mid-winter A stable-place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Enough for Him, whom cherubim Worship night and day,
A breastful of milk, And a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, whom angels Fall down before,
The ox and ass and camel Which adore.
Angels and archangels May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim Thronged the air –
But only His mother In her maiden bliss
Worshipped the Beloved With a kiss.
What can I give Him, Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb;
If I were a wise man I would do my part;
Yet what I can, I give Him – Give my heart.
When I found this heart-shaped leaf lying in the snow next to our sidewalk, it reminded me of the stanza, “What can I give Him — Give my heart.”
“In the Bleak Midwinter” is a Christmas carol based on a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti written before 1872 in response to a request from the magazine Scribner’s Monthly for a Christmas poem. It was published posthumously in Rossetti’s Poetic Works in 1904.
The poem became a Christmas carol after it appeared in The English Hymnal in 1906 with a setting by Gustav Holst.

A Love-ly Day in the Park
“Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving.” ~Kahlil Gibran

Well, Hello, Cardinal!
On Palm Sunday, the snow fell and the birds came to the feeder to snack throughout the day.
I waited a long time to capture this shy cardinal.
He darted among all the backyard trees, and then he finally decided it was his turn to snack on the sunflower seeds. Isn’t he a beauty?
Madagascar Orchid Show
“The Orchid Show–Madagascar 2013” is in full bloom through March 31 at the St Louis Botanical Garden. It’s a colorful and fragrant place to visit during the dullness of the winter!
The Garden has about 7,000 individual orchid plants representing approximately 280 genera and more than 2,500 unique orchid taxa.
Volunteers spend weeks designing and arranging the orchid show each year. This year’s theme highlights the Garden’s long-standing research and conservation work in Madagascar.

Warmth in the Bleak Mid-Winter
Leaving the Midwest for a week and getting away to Cozumel, Georgetown on Grand Cayman, and Jamaica for a week was just what the doctors ordered! The blues and greens of the skies and water, the colorful painted buildings and dress of the people, the friendly cultures, the flora and fauna, and the plethora of historic facts just waiting to be seen and heard were more than we expected. This great escape was indeed a welcome break and an awesome rest.
We thank the Lord for safe travel, and for the renewal and energizing getaway to recharge us and help us return to our daily work! Now if we could just skip directly into Spring!

Sisters are different flowers from the same garden. ~Author Unknown
And my favorite “sisters quote”:
In the cookies of life, sisters are the chocolate chips. ~Author Unknown
These sisters are definitely flowers AND chocolate chips!

Little Miss Ava Is ONE!
A bundle of energy! A petite princess! An angelic one-year-old! This is Miss Ava Gabriella!
Ava, it seems like yesterday I was shooting your newborn photos! Now you’re quite the little model, showing off your climbing and balancing skills, sharing your gray puppy with me, looking so cute in your dressy dress, girly tutu, and even just a diaper.
Happy first birthday, dear Ava!
I’m enjoying watching you grow & learn new things — catching you sticking out your tongue at me and teasing me with your toys — and getting your photos for your family. Now don’t grow up too fast, please!
This Girl Loves to Play!
It didn’t matter that she was dressed to a “T” — after some more formal portraits, Miss Reese wanted to play on the park’s playground, and that’s just what we did!
She’s a five-year-old packed with energy and determination, she has a delightful and caring nature, and she shows off her mischievous and teasing personality in her twinkling eyes and cute smile. I could just keep on taking her photos forever.

A Girl and Her Guitar
When this young beauty becomes the next Taylor Swift and hits the musical charts or lands a modeling job, she promised that I could be her career photographer. I will be able to say, “I knew her when … she played in her back yard … ”
I wish her ALL the best! She’s a beautiful girl inside and out!
Way to rock this session, Reagan! Love ya!

Singin’ in the Rain
and Baby, It’s Cold Outside were just two of the themes during this photo session with sisters R & R — they are such fun girls!
Their eyes sparkled and they played “Mary Poppins” when the wind gusted under their brightly colored umbrellas. Whoosh! Let’s have a tea party in the treetops! I actually thought we might! We laughed and laughed!
Instead, the girls and their mom and I agreed we’d all have hot chocolate with marshmallows once we got into our warm homes!
I count those pretty reflections in the puddles as bonuses in my photo-fun-day! Thanks, sweet girls, for playing along with me on a chilly winter day!
Mike & Laura Waiting for Baby
Baby! It’s COLD outside!
Mike & Laura met me on Sunday afternoon for a few maternity shots just one week before their baby girl’s due date. The blustery wind made us move from site to site quickly, and the new daddy- and mommy-to-be were so fun & natural to capture.
As we got fast photos and talked, they decided to get their little bag packed for this week’s antiticipated excitement, with a harsh winter ice and snow storm on its way. I reminded Mike to pack some soothing lotion to give Laura a much needed massage.
Talk about EXCITING! … The day after this photo session, Laura texted me from the hospital with the happy message that their baby girl had been born.
Thank You, Lord, for Baby C’s safe arrival, and for a healthy and happy new little family. I look forward to capturing Baby C’s newborn photos for you, Mike and Laura!

Dreamy…Creamy… A few captures of baby Willow, just two weeks old, so fresh, soft, and sweet.
Willow with her two very happy, proud, and thankful grandmas — Grandma Linda and Grandma Sandy ADORE her!
Willow, you are indeed a heaven-sent gift!
Here’s Willow in a little Christmas red…
While Mommy was at a meeting, I captured this special Daddy & Willow love!
