Morning in the Park

Image

The G Family met me at the neighborhood park for some play time. Their youngest son just turned six months old and he used his core strength to sit well for the very first time without toppling over! Big brother (14) adores his little brother and was so helpful in keeping him happy by blowing bubbles and  supplying him with colorful props!

Look at little B’s beautiful eyes and eyelashes! His bright personality shined through the whole morning!

We took a break and got out the St. Louis’ famous Fitz’s Root Beer, complete with old fashioned striped paper straws decorated with bow ties for the guys and a girly pink bow for mom! How cute is little B with his bow-tied sippy cup!

In the Bleak Midwinter

2014 IceCappedDriedZinniaBloomJLPC

In the bleak mid-winter  Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter Long ago.

2014 SnowCappedConeflowerSeedPodJLPC

I enjoy photographing nature and little details of God’s creation even on a cold winter day. On this day we had accumulated 9 inches of new snow, and some of our drifts were higher than two feet tall. My boots weren’t tall enough to keep the cold, icy, snow out, but it was well worth the effort in our garden areas to capture these dried flowers still on their stalks, topped with a dollop of snow. The images, plus a mug of hot chocolate, were sweet rewards.

Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him Nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away When He comes to reign:
In the bleak mid-winter A stable-place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

Enough for Him, whom cherubim Worship night and day,
A breastful of milk, And a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, whom angels Fall down before,
The ox and ass and camel Which adore.

Angels and archangels May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim Thronged the air –
But only His mother In her maiden bliss
Worshipped the Beloved With a kiss.

What can I give Him, Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb;
If I were a wise man I would do my part;
Yet what I can, I give Him – Give my heart.

2014 SnowDayDetails 013E JLPC

When I found this heart-shaped leaf lying in the snow next to our sidewalk, it reminded me of the stanza, “What can I give Him — Give my heart.”

“In the Bleak Midwinter” is a Christmas carol based on a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti written before 1872 in response to a request from the magazine Scribner’s Monthly for a Christmas poem. It was published posthumously in Rossetti’s Poetic Works in 1904.

The poem became a Christmas carol after it appeared in The English Hymnal in 1906 with a setting by Gustav Holst.

G & C celebrated 13 years of marriage recently. Their zest for life and love for each other bubbles over to everyone who is around them! They are  cuteness and faithfulness and loveliness personified! So glad they asked me to capture some fun moments in the park!

This potted bougainvillea has bloomed its heart out this summer, and is still giving us a great show of color off our patio area. I love the tiny white blossoms inside the coral leaf-petals. They’re so intricate and lace-like!

Love Is in the Air

Image

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

1 John 3:1

There are SO many quotes about love.

My favorite is “Love is a VERB.”

I pray that this dear couple experiences much love as they prepare to make a life together through marriage and family.

I pray that their third “cord” in their relationship as husband and wife is Jesus Christ, the One who demonstrates perfect love and forgiveness to us all.

I wish you much happiness, D and B!

How happy! How blessed! How thankful!

The roses they hold are from a special rose bush in their yard.

What a wonderful memory it is that D’s mother went along with him and E to select this rose color.

God’s blessings, dear D and E!

I pray that you always know God’s love and care for you.

I pray that He gives you many more happy years together!

I pray that wherever you make your home, God is the center of it.

You are an inspiration to all who know you and love you dearly.

Well, Hello, Cardinal!

Well, Hello, Cardinal!

On Palm Sunday, the snow fell and the birds came to the feeder to snack throughout the day.

I waited a long time to capture this shy cardinal.

He darted among all the backyard trees, and then he finally decided it was his turn to snack on the sunflower seeds. Isn’t he a beauty?

Madagascar Orchid Show

ImageImage

“The Orchid Show–Madagascar 2013” is in full bloom through March 31 at the St Louis Botanical Garden. It’s a colorful and fragrant place to visit during the dullness of the winter!

The Garden has about 7,000 individual orchid plants representing approximately 280 genera and more than 2,500 unique orchid taxa.

Volunteers spend weeks designing and arranging the orchid show each year. This year’s theme highlights the Garden’s long-standing research and conservation work in Madagascar.

This tiny tot just turned TWO and is mesmerized by all the magic of the Christmas season! She has the clearest, bluest eyes and gorgeous eyelashes … as well as perfect “angelic” hair!

Willow held the soft, plush baby Jesus and rocked him in front of the Christmas tree while I enjoyed every minute of this session for her family.

Merry Christmas to Willow and her entire family, and may your new year be bright and wonderful!

HS Senior Tessa

Seriously cute, fun, and sweet — what a joy it was to capture casual photos for Tessa and her family!

The brisk wind was challenging. So we just pretended we were in a Hollywood shoot and used it to our advantage.

We sneaked sister Kayla into some photos too. Here’s one fun out-take!

In the cookies of life, sisters are the chocolate chips.

Sisters go together like peanut butter and pickles. They’re just RIGHT together.

Thank you for asking me to capture your casual senior year photos! God’s blessings for an exciting school year and in all your life adventures!

Lovely in Lavender

Image

Fresh as a daisy … only 11 days “new” …

Her mommy chose her dress, her big sister chose her headband and flower, and her grammy crocheted the lavender afghan for her. She is dearly loved.

I’m so glad I got to meet her so soon after her birth and take photos for her family. Except for a few minutes of sleep time photos, she was wide awake and watching everything, and by the time we finished, it appeared that Baby Elena wanted to talk too! I wonder what she was thinking!

Love Serene

Doesn’t her daddy’s gaze toward her just melt your heart?

And isn’t she lovely on lavender?

Summer Beauties

In the Eyes of a Child

Image

ImageThere are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.  ~Walt Streightiff

When I got to capture photos of little W for her mommy and grandma at the playground, I hoped so much to catch the bright lights sparkling in her blue eyes! Though W was working hard on getting new teeth, and enjoyed being held by her mommy while I got some closeups, she had fun on the slide and tilty swing. Her face especially lighted up when she saw the “baa baas” and the mini-goats in the farm area of the park.

Words to describe W include words in these favorite quotes of mine … wonder; radiant; light; fresh; thought of God. And beautiful!

The brightest light, the light of Italy, the purest sky of Scandinavia in the month of June is only a half-light when one compares it to the light of childhood. Even the nights were blue.   ~EUGENE IONESCO, Present Past / Past Present

Every child born into the world is a new thought of God, an ever fresh and radiant possibility.   ~Kate Douglas Wiggin

Eyes are truly the windows to one’s soul. God bless this dear, cherished soul!

Happy 18 month birthday!

A Favorite Iris

Image

Irises bloom prolifically in my garden, thanks to Mom who has gifted so many of hers to me and also gives me birthday cash to get new varieties and hybrids each year! This is one of my favorite blooms. It’s a ruffled edge and bearded variety named “Blast.”

Spring Columbine

The Columbine plant in my garden is blooming its heart out, and these deep purple flowers have lasted nearly three weeks now! How I love spring’s blooms!
Blooms in my Spring 2012 garden are constant joys and surprises from God! The deep purple bloom shapes remind me of majestic trumpets, sounding triumphant praises throughout creation.

One of my favorite Easter Day hymn texts is this one by John of Damascus, c. 754:

The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad, the passover of gladness, the passover of God.
From death to life eternal, from sin’s dominion free, our Christ has brought us over with hymns of victory.

Now let the heav’ns be joyful, let earth its song begin, let all the world keep triumph and all that is therin.
Let all things, seen and unseen, their notes of gladness blend; for Christ the Lord has risen, our joy that has no end.

Joy in our risen Lord Jesus!

Warmth in the Bleak Mid-Winter

Leaving the Midwest for a week and getting away to Cozumel, Georgetown on Grand Cayman, and Jamaica for a week was just what the doctors ordered!  The blues and greens of the skies and water, the colorful painted buildings and dress of the people, the friendly cultures, the flora and fauna, and the plethora of historic facts just waiting to be seen and heard were more than we expected.  This great escape was indeed a welcome break and an awesome rest.

We thank the Lord for safe travel, and for the renewal and energizing getaway to recharge us and help us return to our daily work! Now if we could just skip directly into Spring!
