"It's all about the light" in my photographic adventures.
More important for me, life is all about the Light of the world: Jesus Christ. (See the Gospel of John, chapter 1.) He's my Savior and Friend, my Light in the darkness, my Hope in all situations. I want to know Him better every day and tell others what He has done for us on the cross.
A pleasure is full grown when it is remembered. ~C.S. Lewis

Orchid Mania 2018
The 2018 Orchid Mania display of hundreds of species of orchids is spectacular each year at the Missouri Botanical Garden. I always enjoy leisurely browsing and finding new surprises as I visit and take photos of unusual orchids! The display ends March 25 this year, so go soon if you can! The colors and the natural light are good medicine for the soul and body on a dark winter day!

The Extended B Family
It was a gorgeous afternoon in the park when I was privileged to capture the extended B family’s photos! We had fun talking about their holiday traditions and between posings, they laughed and tickled each other and made this session so much fun! Great Grandma, grandparents, siblings, and cousins got to be included in photos — something they had not had for quite a few years. God’s blessings to the B Family for wonderful holidays ahead!

The B Kids in Autumn Colors
Autumn is a favorite time of year to capture children’s photos amid the gorgeous Fall glowing leaf and sky colors!
Being able to document these children and their sweet personalities is pure joy. Each one is so different, so caring and kind, so special! They have great parents and are so blessed in many ways! I feel blessed to know them and see them often!

Golden Wedding Anniversary
Golden sunshine blessed us with great light on the afternoon of this dear couple’s anniversary photo session! These are just a handful of the captures for their anniversary book. I can’t wait to see which one they chose for their canvas wall art! I couldn’t have asked for more natural subjects! They are a great example of love and commitment for all who know them and witness their kindness and service to others.

A Very Hungry Caterpillar
Little sister brought her baby brother her favorite book—The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle–and he was completely mesmerized by it, as you can see!
The cocoon and hat were crocheted by Lake Effect Creations. You can find her Etsy shop online at etsy.com
Isn’t he adorable in it? A beautiful creation in God’s world!
Zzzz.

Daddy, Hold My Hand
Parenting isn’t “a walk in the park”! But this daddy makes it look easy as he and little one reach for each other’s hand and walk on a mild winter afternoon.
So little. So big. Looking up. Looking down. Reaching up. Reaching down. So trusting. So giving.
It’s great to see a father’s love and a daughter’s trust. May it grow and grow, bloom and blossom!

This Dancer Shines
This young miss SHINES at whatever she does! She dances, she sings, and she excels in middle school too! She has love in her heart that radiates to everyone around her, and that love beams through her beautiful blue eyes. She shares Jesus’ love with those around her, both near and far, in family, church and school family, and mission opportunities.
I captured her sweet personality along with a bit of her impish nature at various locations for her headshots — these samples are from inside a horse barn to outdoors on a snow-covered path. I do have a favorite! Each is very different with the natural light settings — from cool to very warm — that we found along the way.
With a smile and sparkling eyes like these, I know whatever photos her parents submit for her 2016 Muny Opera application headshots will shine for the decision-makers. Better yet, I know she’ll nail her auditions! I look forward to seeing her in the summer productions!
Lord, I pray that Your light will shine through this young girl, that she will grow in her faith and stand unashamed of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and Friend. Help her words and actions to always reveal Your light that lives in her and draw others to You! Give her the confidence and boldness to always take a stand for You in her life experiences. Guide her as she grows to be the young woman You want her to be!
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

A Walk along the Woods on a Winter Day
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Loving Her Swing!
Oh, how I love to go up in the swing, up in the swing so high!
We had a beautiful Autumn day to capture some outdoor photos with this little P and her O’Pa. I love seeing her toothy smile and his big, caring hands in the photos. What fun it is to swing!

Paloma at Seven Months
We made a wish, and you came true.
Muuwah!
Once you’re parents, your marriage matters more, not less, because someone special is counting on you.
“Babies are such a nice way to start people.”

I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day. When it’s cold outside, I’ve got the month of May. Well, I guess you’ll say what can make me feel this way? My girl!

The Chicken Whisperer
Chickens make wonderful pets.
Chickens help teach responsibility with daily feeding and watering chores.
Chickens provide bonus surprises — eggs! Healthy eating!
Here’s my favorite chicken whisperer with her sweet “Cocoa.” I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t have doll clothes on Cocoa sometime soon. Maybe she’ll even push her in a doll stroller. Cocoa would love that!

Happy Hostas
Rain has been abundant this spring and summer. The fauna and flora in our area are all very happy. The best watering comes from heavenly watering, a wise gardener once told me. Better than any spigot and garden hose.
Hosta blooms captured with my macro lens right after an early morning rain:

Family of Three
It was a great day at the park with this family of three, and the bonus was that the rain held off until we were done capturing many special moments.
Seven months old is a magical age! Baby P was fascinated with the ducks and people paddling on the pond. She challenged us to keep her on her special quilt made by her grandma.
Love the love that was bubbling over during this session!

The H Family
A fun family + a beautiful day + a country setting = a GREAT time “shooting” this family!
These parents and their teens were a joy to capture and though we had just met, they were naturals and we had fun together. I loved how they coordinated their colors to brighten the country landscape and the rustic settings.
The H Family chose to have their photos taken near a very special, old tree in their neighborhood complete with the wooden wagon and the biggest rope and wooden swing I’ve ever seen. Can you imagine how high that swing might go?
When they asked if I’d shoot them as they held their guns, I knew I’d be safe with them!
This fun-loving couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in September … this would make a great celebration spot with wine, cheese and crackers, and moonlight!
Aren’t they the cutest? I love their bright blue eyes and happy smiles!
The country setting and great light made me grateful for this beautiful afternoon shoot … I’m glad they left this old stump in the yard!
We ended their family “shoot” by including their beautiful Labs — these guys are all brothers and couldn’t have been sweeter to pose for this shot. I hope they got some good treats! This would make one great canvas wall art for their home. What a pleasure it was to meet this family and capture some special moments for their memory albums and wall frames. One may even become their Christmas photo for 2014!
Thank you to the H Family for purchasing my photography gift certificate at the Silent Auction, and for supporting our Heart for Honduras mission trip! I was blessed in many ways, especially by going as part of the mission team and by meeting and photographing your dear family.

Not Your Typical Water Dog
She isn’t your typical “water dog” but does she ever have fun jumping off the kayak’s bow into the lake, and then shaking all over one of us!
There must be a tiny Labrador gene in her somewhere!
When we rescued her, little did we know we’d have an avid kayaker joining our family.

The N Family — Baby Countdown!
The last trimester — the nesting time — has begun, and both pink and blue and neutral colors were included in some special photos in a favorite park, documenting this couple’s waiting for baby who is due in early November.
He’s so happy! She’s very radiant! We were all very wet in the rain, but glad we met and captured these special photos.
And one more, SOOC — they don’t need anything to enhance their cuteness.

The B Family – Life on Their Ohio Farm
When J and K asked me to capture their family’s lifestyle photos on their farm, I was excited to meet them. A day of thunderstorms almost thwarted our efforts. But late in the evening, a rainbow appeared over the soy bean fields, and the sky cleared for us to meet on their farm. I said a thank-You prayer. What a beautiful location!
I was in photographer’s heaven on earth to see all the colorful sunflowers, cosmos, zinnias, gladiolas, marigolds, and sweet peas K had planted in addition to his corn and bean crops. I gasped when I saw the beautiful old barn wood, pallets, stone piles, and tractors to include in backgrounds. What fun we had moving from one spot to the next!
But most important, what a loving, caring family I was blessed to meet and get to know for a couple hours. How many parents have teens and pre-teens who beg to have their photos taken with their parents and never tire of the directions and suggestions? In fact, they had their own awesome suggestions for me to include in their photos.
This evening was above awesome! Take a look and see!
A natural “frame” for dad and mom! And how about that girl power?
Kudos to these parents! Their kiddos showed so much love and respect.
They definitely mimic what they see and hear.
Awww! One of my many favorites. Dear Daughter’s expression makes me giggle.
A hardworking TEAM B!
I didn’t bring tool props. They are REAL and we didn’t look far for them.
The wildflower garden by their country home.
The brick walkway and arbor that K built, leading to their home’s front door.
These kids don’t just love each other. They LIKE each other too.
The B Family and kitty Eenie. They told me an eagle nests in the woods behind them.
We didn’t see it on this evening though.
This father’s love for his daughter is amazing to see. So protective.
The guys enjoy their hobbies!
Eenie gets a lot of love from her sweet and spunky friend! Oh does she have beautiful eyes too. Eenie’s friend, I mean!
Aren’t those denims drying on the clothesline the best?!
And the textures on this farm just made me over the top happy.
Son #1
Dear Daughter — I love how her initials had been painted on the barn by the previous farm owners.
Had to gobble up that opportunity for a perfect background for her!
Son #2
Now you see how much FUN I had with the B Family!
It was a blessing to be with you all. Let’s do it again sometime!

Perfect Place to Be
For my DH who waits so patiently for a fish’s bite:
The worst day of fishing is better than the best day at work!
And from my viewpoint on this beautiful water … ahhhhh!
Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. —From The Complete Prose Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our Garden Blooms
Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.

This past year we’ve added a butterfly garden at our home and we enjoy seeing it from our kitchen window. The butterflies, bees, and birds have found this special place! God’s creation is so beautiful and intricate!
Here are some of this summer’s blooms:

Happy 50th wedding anniversary to this fun and loving couple!
Live. Love. Dance.
The original wedding party peeps came to celebrate!
And so did their 18 grandchildren (though missing one on this day) … showing some love …
and some more LOVE in their family circles of children and grandchildren … here’s one of those “Ewww, they’re KISSing!” moments captured! Yes, grandparents still kiss!
Backyard tables were tented and beautiful decorated with floral arrangements and “word” stones to capture the sentiments of the celebration …
H and MS, thank you for the opportunity to capture moments during your family’s celebration! God’s blessings for many more happy, healthy, and fun years together!
